The challenge

MotoPal supports Gen A drivers — especially those with ADHD — with behaviour-based driving feedback, rewards, and real-time speed alerts. User trust hinges entirely on accuracy: every alert must be timely and justified, and FlutterFlow’s built-in sensor access wasn’t precise enough to earn it.

The approach

We went hybrid: all UI, user flows, and Firebase connectivity in FlutterFlow, with a custom native speed-measurement system written in Swift and Kotlin and merged through GitHub-synced codebases. Google Maps and TomTom APIs supply real-time speed-limit data.

The ADHD-focused design shaped everything else: separate onboarding for teens and guardians, challenges and rewards deferred until after the first drive, simplified post-drive scores with safety tips, and a learning library (like “Science of Rewards”) explaining the behavioural reinforcement behind the app. Minimal friction, staggered unlocks, nothing overwhelming.

The outcome

Speed tracking works in test builds and is now being validated in real-world drives, with gamification unlocking smoothly post-onboarding. The build is in TestFlight and internal testing ahead of public beta — and it settled a question we hear a lot: when accuracy is safety-critical, native code inside a FlutterFlow app is not just possible, it’s the right architecture.
